Human Relations Training in Educational Administration Programs: A Study Based on a National Survey

Joseph C. Rost

Training in interpersonal relations skills has become so popular that it represents a national movement of considerable influence. The present study was conducted to determine how deeply the human-potential movement had penetrated university training programs in school admin istration. The study indicates that a majority of the departments of edu cational administration in the nation take a dim view of the role of human relations training in preparing school administrators. However, there is a trend toward incorporating meaningful human relations training into administrator preparation programs, and considerable evidence suggests that human resource management has made strong inroads into a signifi cant minority of such programs.
